Species Account

A medium-sized, semi-aquatic, north Queensland species with a wide distribution from Ravenshoe to Coen, including eastward and westward flowing catchments. Found in burrows or under rocks near the waterline of creeks, gullies, lagoons and swamps. Anterolateral carapace with distinct striations; postorbital and epigastric ridges poorly developed. Body tan to orange with dark band down middle of back in large specimens. Body width to 40 mm. Highly suitable for an aqua-terrarium. — John W. Short, 2026
