Species Account

A highly adaptable Australian species with a wide distribution in the Lake Eyre and upper Darling River catchments in inland Australia and a number of exorheic catchments in northern Australia. Constructs deep burrows in the banks of streams, swamps, bore drains and waterholes. Anterolateral regions of carapace without distinct striations, anterolateral tooth small, notch-like; frontal region of carapace slightly concave or straight. Carapace yellow to olive-yellow with purple specks. Body width to 53 mm. Highly suitable for an aqua-terrarium. — John W. Short, 2026
