Caridina pisuku (Pisuku Shrimp)

Species Account

A medium-sized euryhaline species presently known from Indonesia (Papua Province), the Solomons and Australia (northeast Queensland) in the Central Indo-West Pacific region. Adults prefer well-oxygenated freshwater streams in the lower and middle course of rivers. The most common species in the Wet Tropics of northeast Queensland. Rostrum long, slightly sinuous, upturned or straight, with unarmed region on distal third of upper margin; antennal spine distinct from lower orbital margin of carapace; preanal carina with well-developed spine. Body translucent with white dorsal stripe and a number of faint red lateral stripes. Eggs small, 0.36–0.47 mm in length. Body length to 37 mm.
