
Cherax quinquecarinatus (Gilgie)
Species Account
A small, highly adaptable species endemic to southwest Australia from the Moore River to Denmark. Found in permanent rivers and streams, seasonal wetlands, roadside drains and caves. Anterior carapace with five carinae including distinct postrostral carinae and a median carina, rostral carinae armed with two spines anteriorly; telson without median spines. Brownish to greenish black, often mottled, sometimes with median longitudinal band. Length to 150 mm. — John W. Short, 2026
