
Euastacus monteithorum (Kroombit Tops Spiny Crayfish)
Species Account
A small, semi-aquatic, endemic Australian species restricted to Kroombit Tops above 800 m elevation, mid-east Queensland. Body setose (hairy) with relatively few spines, spines largely absent on thorax and abdomen; postorbital spines absent on carapace; chelipeds with well-defined groove on upper carpus (wrist), spine rows above cutting edges of fingers reaching full length of fingers. Upper body and chelipeds dark brown except for orange carpus (wrist) and merus, underside of body orange. — John W. Short, 2026
