
Euastacus suttoni (Sutton's Spiny Crayfish)
Species Account
A small, endemic Australian species restricted to the Conondale and Blackall Ranges, Sunshine Coast hinterland, southeast Queensland. Semi-terrestrial, adults in deep burrows down to the water table in wet areas or in short burrows among rocks along creek banks. Generally found in upland rainforest areas above 400 m elevation. Thorax and abdomen without well-developed spines; chelipeds with well-defined groove on upper carpus (wrist), inner margin of carpus armed with three spines. Body reddish-brown, often with areas of blue or greenish-blue on the chelae and legs. Carapace length to 43.5 mm. — John W. Short, 2026
