Introduction
A large family of true freshwater crabs comprising over 80 genera and more than 460 species (extant taxa) with a wide distribution from India and Sri Lanka to China, Taiwan, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. Diagnosis
Carapace usually broader than long, smooth or rugose; frontal region with a distinct or indistinct median triangle; anterolateral margin convex, armed with 1–3 epibranchial teeth (a single tooth in most genera). Mandibular palp with two lobes. Male abdomen t-shaped, less obviously in Australian species. Genital openings sternal in females, coxal in males. — John W. Short, 2026
