
Trapezia guttata (Bird's Nest Coral Crab)
Species Account
A wide-ranging Indo-West Pacific species found on intertidal and subtidal coral reefs. Symbiotic on branching corals, particularly species of Pocillopora, Seriatopora and Stylophora. Feeds on coral mucous and in return defends the coral against predators. Carapace all white except for red band along front between the eyes; chelipeds peach to orange with reticulated pattern, fingers light grey to black. — John W. Short, 2026
